Crockpot BBQ Chicken Sliders

Yield: Approximately 12-18 sliders (depending on the size of your slider buns)

Cook Time: 6-8 hours on low or 3-4 hours on high

Ingredients:

  • 2-2.5 pounds boneless chicken thighs (in video) or chicken breasts

  • 2 cups BBQ sauce, homemade in the video or your favorite brand

  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon Thyme

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Red onion sliced

  • Cheddar Cheese shredded

  • 12-18 slider buns

  • Optional toppings: coleslaw, pickles, shredded cheese, crispy fried onions

Ingredients for homemade BBQ sauce

  • 1 1/4 cups ketchup

  • 1 tbsp Maggi seasoning sauce

  • 1 tsp black pepper

  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar

  • 4 tsp sriracha sauce

  • 1/3 cup brown sugar

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 2 tsp salt

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Crockpot:

    • Spray the inside of your crockpot with non-stick cooking spray.

  2. Combine Ingredients:

    • Place the chicken in the crockpot.

    • Put the spices listed above over the chicken, ensuring it's well coated.

  3. Cook the Chicken:

    • Cover the crockpot and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours until the chicken is tender and shreds easily.

    • Shred the chicken directly in the crockpot, mixing it with the sauce.

  4. Assemble the Sliders:

    • Slice the slider buns in half.

    • Spoon the shredded BBQ chicken onto the bottom halves of the buns.

    • Add your desired toppings.

    • Top with the remaining halves of the buns.

  5. Serve:

    • Serve immediately or for extra taste, spread with butter and garlic powder mix over the top of the buns and put in the oven at 325 degress for about 10 minutes or until golden brown

Tips and Considerations:

  • Chicken Type:

    • Chicken thighs tend to be more forgiving in the crockpot and remain very moist.

    • Chicken breasts can also be used, but be careful not to overcook them, as they can become dry.

  • BBQ Sauce:

    • Use your favorite BBQ sauce! The flavor of the sauce will significantly impact the final result.

  • Cooking Time:

    • Cooking times can vary depending on your crockpot. Always check the chicken for tenderness and ensure it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).

  • Toppings:

    • Coleslaw adds a refreshing crunch.

    • Pickles provide a tangy bite.

    • Shredded cheese adds a melty, savory element.

    • Crispy fried onions add a great texture.

  • Keeping Warm:

    • If you need to keep the sliders warm for a party, you can assemble them and then keep them in a low-temperature oven.
